Locality and True-concurrency in Calculi for Mobile Processes

چکیده
Process algebra semantics can be categorised into true-concurrency semantics, where parallel composition is considered a primitive operator, and interleaving semantics, where concurrency is reduced to sequentiality plus non-determinism. The former have an appealing intuitive justiication, but the latter are mathematically more tractable. This paper addresses the study of true-concurrency semantics in the framework of process algebras for mobile systems, like-calculus MPW92, Mil91]. We focus on location bisimulation (`), in our opinion one of the most convincing true-concurrency equivalences, which aims to describe the spatial dependencies on processes. Our main contribution is to show that in-calculus`can be expressed , or implemented, within the ordinary interleaving observation equivalence Mil89, MPW92] by means of a fairly simple and fully abstract encoding. Thus, we can take advantage of the easier theory of observation equivalence to reason about`. We illustrate this with a few examples, including the proof of the congruence properties of`. We show that in-calculusìs not a congruence, and that the full abstraction of the encoding extends to the induced congruence. The results in the paper also shed more light on the expressive power of-calculus.

متن کاملDeclarative event based models of concurrency and refinement in psi-calculi
Psi-calculi constitute a parametric framework for nominal process calculi, where constraint based process calculi and process calculi for mobility can be defined as instances. We apply here the framework of psi-calculi to provide a foundation for the exploration of declarative event-based process calculi with support for runtime refinement. We first provide a representation of the model of fini...
متن کاملSemantics of Higher-Order Mobile Embedded Resources and Local Names
This PhD dissertation develops a formal model and theory for reasoning about mobile and distributed systems. In particular, we consider systems consisting of mobile computing devices containing mobile computations, where both kinds of entities can move between locations and where the entities can contain local information. We begin by presenting a process calculus that focuses on the following ...

Cherkasova, L.A., and V.E. Kotov, An algebra of concurrent nondeterminstic processes, Theoretical Computer Science 90 (1991) 151-170. This paper illustrates how early ideas and simple naive concepts of concurrency theory of the 1960s have now turned into complex and subtle problems of modern calculi of concurrent processes. An algebra of finite processes AFP, is discussed as an example of resea...
متن کاملT C C H-o C: E D R – a S
Higher-order process calculi are formalisms for concurrency in which processes can be passed around in communications. Higher-order (also known as process-passing) concurrency is often presented as an alternative paradigm to the first order (or name-passing) concurrency of the π-calculus for the description of mobile systems. This paper is a survey of recent results on the expressiveness and de...
